Las mujeres de la Brukman

Brukman es una fábrica textil ubicada en la calle Jujuy del barrio de Balvanera de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. El 18 de diciembre de 2001, como presagio de lo que estallaría un día después, los trabajadores de la empresa textil, en su mayoría mujeres, solicitaron a los dueños que, al menos, les pagaran el viático: desde finales de los noventa la fábrica se había deteriorado sin retorno, acumulaba deudas, había despedido a la mitad de sus empleados y no pagaba los sueldos. De los 150 pesos por semana que cobraban pasaron a cobrar, 100 luego 50, hasta llegar a 2 pesos, que no alcanzaban ni para cubrir los viajes al trabajo de los empleados. Las negociaciones con los dueños fueron inútiles. Circulaban versiones de  que ellos se fugarían, como hicieron tantos dueños de empresas por esos tiempos. Luego de haberse enriquecido a costa del trabajo de sus empleados no estaban dispuestos a “traer el dinero de afuera” para pagar lo que correspondía, como por esos días se escuchó decir a uno de los ex dueños de Brukman. Los trabajadores decidieron esa noche de diciembre permanecer allí. Los dueños no volvieron, ellos se quedaron.

En el transcurso de estos casi doce años desde aquel diciembre han pasado por muchas situaciones duras y otras reconfortantes: tres intentos de desalojo, represión policial, y la ardua tarea de rescatar de la ruina una fábrica que intuían podría dar mucho más. No se equivocaron. También se encontraron con un pueblo solidario que los defendió a ellos y a su proyecto frente a cada embate policial: piqueteros, participantes de asambleas vecinales, grupos de derechos humanos, legisladores y funcionarios dijeron presente cada vez que la cosa se puso fea.

El último desalojo en abril del 2003 fue el más duro: por orden del Juez Jorge Rimondi más de trescientos policías intentaron expulsar del lugar a los trabajadores. Horas más tarde, tres mil manifestantes defendieron a los obreros evitando el desalojo. La policía reprimió a los manifestantes: hubo 20 heridos y unos 100 arrestados. Al día siguiente sus compañeros de Zanon, también empresa recuperada, cortaron la ruta 22 como muestra de apoyo a una lucha compartida. Unos días más tarde se podía ver la carpa de la resistencia alrededor de la planta textil, allí alrededor de cien personas permanecieron a modo de protesta, en repudio a lo que había sucedido y en defensa de su legítima fuente de trabajo.

Finalmente, en diciembre de 2003 lograron ingresar a la fábrica con autorización del juzgado: los trabajadores vivieron ese día como un sueño cumplido y como una forma de reparación tras tantas dificultades.
Así, adoptando la forma de gestión cooperativa, pasado un tiempo, la fábrica hizo nuevos clientes y se pagaron las deudas. Incluso se pudo pactar un salario digno para todos los cooperativistas, que luego estuvieron en condiciones de contratar diez empleados más.

En 2011 fabricaban los uniformes de Aerolíneas Argentinas y Austral, renovaron  máquinas y comenzaron a participar de licitaciones para ropa de dependencias públicas además de vender al público y a distintas firmas.
Esta experiencia los volvió mundialmente famosos. El documental “Las mujeres de Brukman” del canadiense Isaac Isitan fue visto en distintos países por más de dos millones de personas.
La dignidad recuperada hace escuela, un ejemplo argentino para el mundo.
