El gobierno de Brasil denuncia a Zara por usar mano de obra esclava en más de 30 talleres

Un informe de la ONG Reporter Brasil ha desvelado que la Regional de Trabajo y Empleo de Sao Paulo ha encontrado dos talleres vinculados a Zara con trabajadores/as en condiciones de esclavitud y el Ministerio de Trabajo de Brasil asegura que al menos enotros 33 talleres subcontratados por la empresa Inditex, propietaria de Zara, se habrían detectado las mismas irregularidades: hacinamiento, condiciones insalubres de trabajo y salarios de miseria.

De hecho, en una operación que supervisó los talleres subcontratados de la fabricante de ropa Zara de Sao Paulo, se liberaron 15 personas, incluyendo una de 14 años, que según Juliana Cassiano, auditora fiscal del Ministerio de Trabajo, en su mayoría no tenían documentos, habían sido introducidos clandestinamente en Brasil por redes de tráfico de seres humanos y trabajaban en unas condiciones «terribles»: Su jornada laboral era de hasta 16 horas diarias, hacinados con cinco menores de edad en un espacio minúsculo que servía a la vez de taller y vivienda, con un solo cuarto de baño sucio y sin agua caliente, «y todo para ganar 200 o 300 reales [entre 90 y 130 euros] y estar endeudados con las mafias. La situación era muy, muy grave».

Inditex insiste en que se trata de una «situación excepcional», según señaló ayer a «El Confidencial» un portavoz oficial del grupo textil fundado por Amancio Ortega. Y responsabiliza a la firma AHA, uno de sus más de 50 proveedores en Brasil, de haber subcontratado de forma «no autorizada» la fabricación de prendas de Zara en los dos talleres textiles clandestinos descubiertos por las autoridades de aquel país.

Pero el Ministerio de Trabajo de Brasil rechaza los argumentos de la multinacional de Arteixo (A Coruña). «Si nosotros podemos rastrear la cadena de producción, Inditex también puede hacerlo», sostiene Cassiano. «Y si Inditex es capaz de controlar la calidad de sus productos durante todo el proceso de producción, ¿por qué no hace lo mismo con la mano de obra que emplea?».

La Campaña Ropa Limpia-SETEM lleva muchos años exigiendo a Inditex que cumpla su código de conducta y compromisos como el pago de un salario mínimo vital a las personas trabajadoras, la divulgación de su lista de proveedores y la adopción de medidas para garantizar que sus prácticas de compra y de gestión de la cadena de suministro no impactan negativamente sobre los derechos fundamentales de las personas trabajadoras.

Si bien es verdad que Inditex ha mantenido un diálogo fluido con la Campaña Ropa Limpia y, en ocasiones, ha adoptado medidas correctivas en casos de violación de derechos laborales, este caso en Brasil como otros tantos, son indicador de que no se han hecho los cambios necesarios en su modelo de negocio.
