Al menos seis muertos en el incendio de una fábrica textil en Bangladesh

Dacca, 20 sep (EFE).- Al menos seis personas murieron hoy en el incendio de una fábrica textil ubicada cerca de Dacca, en cuyo interior se encontraban más de 300 trabajadores en el momento del siniestro, informaron fuentes oficiales.

«Hemos encontrado seis cadáveres en dos pisos de la fábrica (…) No tenemos información sobre que haya más personas en el interior», dijo a Efe el subdirector del servicio de bomberos de Munshiganj (centro), Farid Uddin, que detalló que más de 300 trabajadores se encontraban dentro del edificio en el momento del suceso.

El fuego se produjo en torno a las 10.00, hora local (04.00 GMT), en pleno horario de trabajo en la fábrica Ideal Textile Mills, de Munshiganj, una localidad cercana a la capital bangladesí.

Uddin señaló que el servicio de bomberos sospecha que las llamas pudieron originarse al entrar en contacto las chispas ocasionadas por unos trabajos de soldadura con productos químicos inflamables guardados en un almacén.

El superintendente de Policía de Munshiganj, Mustafizur Rahman, informó a Efe que cinco personas, incluido el director general de la empresa, están siendo interrogadas.

El último accidente de gravedad ocurrido en una fábrica bangladesí tuvo lugar en julio, cuando la explosión de una caldera causó trece muertos.

El sector textil lleva años en el ojo del huracán por sus condiciones de trabajo en el país, especialmente tras el derrumbe del complejo Rana Plaza en 2013, en el que murieron 1.100 trabajadores y 2.500 resultaron heridos.

En agosto un tribunal de Dacca condenó a tres años de prisión al dueño del complejo textil Rana Plaza, en lo que supone la primera sentencia relacionada con la mayor tragedia textil de Bangladesh.

Unos 4 millones de personas trabajan en el sector textil en el país, que con unos 34.000 millones de dólares representa el 81 % de las exportaciones de Bangladesh.
