Acabas la carrera y de repente… la oferta laboral de tu vida, cuéntanos cómo ocurrió.
Me enteré de que había una vacante libre en uno de los departamentos de una de las cadenas más jóvenes de Inditex y, sin pensarlo dos veces, me decidí a solicitarla. El trabajo consistía en un puesto de Communication Manager, tanto nacional como internacional. Se trataba de gestionar la comunicación online y offline de dicha cadena. En este departamento sólo estábamos mi superior (es decir, la persona que me contrató) y yo. Fueron entre 3 o 4 meses de diferentes entrevistas, pruebas orales y escritas. Finalmente, se me comunicó que yo había sido la persona seleccionada para el puesto (supuestamente de entre un grupo de candidatos bastante elevado).

Sin embargo, la experiencia se acaba antes de tiempo, ¿qué pasó?
Directamente, fueron tres semanas exactas las que duró esta experiencia. Desde el primer momento de mi incorporación, tuve que hacer frente a improperios por parte de mi responsable directo, tareas imposibles de llevar a cabo, llamadas a horas intempestivas o correos electrónicos de madrugada en relación a temas del proyecto que estábamos llevando a cabo en esos momentos: todo esto junto a insultos (muy bien maquillados, eso sí) en relación a la actividad profesional, como por ejemplo que no sabía redactar o que no sabía hablar ni expresarme. A la tercera semana se me comunicó mi despido sin ninguna razón.

¿En qué momento te diste cuenta de que lo que estaba ocurriendo no era normal?
Me di cuenta de esto en cuanto fui consciente de que el trabajo para el que siempre me había estado preparando, estudiando y formando, se había convertido en una pesadilla de lunes a viernes y en el miedo de que sonara el despertador para volver al trabajo día tras día. Me acuerdo que en un viaje profesional que hicimos al extranjero con más gente de otros departamentos, el responsable del mío me decía constantemente que no sabía desempeñar mi trabajo y que no podía abarcar más porque no tenía capacidad para hacerlo. Mientras tanto y sin saberlo, el resto de mis compañeros me felicitaban por el trabajo realizado y por los resultados que se habían obtenido.

¿Consideras que el responsable de tu departamento estaba capacitado para su puesto?, ¿por qué?
No me considero con ninguna potestad para valorar si alguien está capacitado para su trabajo o no. Lo único que puedo opinar al respecto es que esta persona distaba bastante de lo que uno se imagina como un responsable de un Departamento Internacional de una multinacional como Inditex. Simple y llanamente empezando por su dominio del inglés, absolutamente nulo. El ambiente entre mis compañeros de trabajo era de miedo absoluto y sumisión. Por supuesto, por detrás todo eran críticas. Debo señalar, que por mi mismo puesto llegaron a pasar alrededor de 15 personas diferentes en dos años.

¿Qué realidades descubriste en la empresa que divergen de la imagen que proyecta?
Descubrí una realidad que no se asemejaba a lo que uno tiene en la mente como «una de las mejores empresas del mundo». Sinceramente, no logro encontrar una explicación para esto. Por mucho que piense, no se me ocurre ninguna. Está demostrado que cuando los trabajadores están a gusto y contentos en su lugar de trabajo, son mucho más productivos y desempeñan mejor sus tareas. Simplemente, creo que dentro de la empresa existen personas “intocables” que, a pesar de su falta de humanidad y de su latente incompetencia, continúan ejerciendo puestos de responsabilidad que se convierten en inamovibles.

¿Sigues trabajando en el mismo campo? ¿En qué situación laboral te encuentras ahora?
Sí, actualmente trabajo en el mismo ámbito. Nunca he dejado de dedicarme a ello. Sigo dedicándome al mundo de la prensa y la comunicación (es decir, con exactamente las mismas tareas que ejercía en Inditex) eso sí, no dentro del ámbito textil y no en una multinacional como esa, sino que a menor escala.

¿Qué le recomendarías a la empresa para superar esos problemas?
Algo tan simple como responsables competentes tanto profesional como personalmente.

¿Sabes si ha habido casos parecidos al tuyo (en tu puesto o otros)?
Lo cierto es que sí, me consta que ha habido algunos casos más, muy parecidos al mío, antes y después de mi experiencia, y con la misma persona responsable como protagonista.
